Louis Geske, age 87
of Milroy passed away Saturday January 5, 2008 at the Sunwood Good
Samaritan Care Center in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be
held on Wednesday, January 9 at 2 p.m. from Bethany Lutheran Church
in Wabasso. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 at
the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue
one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. The Redwood
Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Louis Raymond Geske was born December 11, 1920 in Willow Lake Township,
Redwood County, Minnesota to Emil and Anna (Kruse) Geske. He was
baptized at Willow Lake Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Bethany
Lutheran in Wabasso. Louis attended country school in rural Wabasso.
He served in the United States Army from 1942-1945. Louis was wounded
in France during his time of service. He then returned to Wabasso.
Louis was united in marriage to Evelyn Meier on June 15, 1947 at
St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. He worked for a short
time at Redwood Falls for the light and power company. Shortly after
he became a meat cutter and worked in Redwood Falls for three years.
He then became a government grader, grading turkeys for two years.
Louis then worked at the Springfield Locker for four years. The
couple moved to Milroy in 1955 where he ran the locker until 1978.
Afterwards he worked at the Milroy School as a custodian for six
years until his retirement.
Louis was a member of the Milroy American Legion, VFW, and was
also a charter member of the Milroy Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing
and playing cards. He especially enjoyed playing cribbage. Louis
enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Louis Geske is survived by his sons Jerry (Diana) Geske of Jasper,
MN and Duane “Chopper” (Sue) of Stillwater; grandchildren:
Melany Geske and fiancé Derek, Nathan (Cindy) Geske, Nicole
Geske, and Neal Geske; great grandson Grant; sister Lorraine (Melvin)
Hammerschmidt and brother William (Audrey) Geske; numerous nieces,
nephews, relatives, and friends; special family friends Gary and
Susie McCoy and Vicki and Tom Wurscher. He was preceded in death
by his parents, wife Evelyn, an infant daughter, and brothers and
sisters Gilbert, Linus, Mary Ann, Edna, Marvin, Delores, Lorance,
and infant brother Fred.
