Erwin L. Meierding
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of the service
at the United Methodist Church in Morgan on Saturday, May 3rd.
Memorial Service wil be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 11:00 AM at
the United Methodist Church in Morgan.
Erwin L. Meierding age 80 of Morgan passed away
Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm,
MN. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the
United Methodist Church in Morgan. Visitation will be held from
9:30 am until the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
Interment is in the Morgan City Cemetery. Memorials are preferred
in lieu of flowers. Email condolences may be sent via www.redwoodvalleyfuneralhome.com.
Arrangements are with the Redwood Valley Funeral Home of Redwood
Falls.
Erwin Meierding was born October 5, 1927 on the family farm in
Morgan Township to Erwin A. and Sophie (Laabs) Meierding. He was
baptized and confirmed at the Morgan Methodist Church. He attended
Country School District 109 in Morgan Township. On June 9, 1953
Erwin was united in marriage to Lois Bangerter at the Presbyterian
Church in Wabasso. In 1954 Erwin was drafted into the US Army. He
was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado where he served as a medic.
In 1956 he received his honorable discharge. After the service,
Erwin returned to the Morgan area where he and Lois farmed for 27
years. They then moved to Crosby, MN where they cow-calf ranched
for 8 years. They later moved to Pine River, MN where he worked
for Breezy Point Resort doing maintenance work. Erwin later was
self employed as a painter. In 1993 they returned to Morgan where
he continued his painting business. In 2004, the couple moved to
New Ulm where they have resided since. Erwin was a longtime member
of the Morgan Methodist Church where he was active as a trustee,
usher, and volunteering his services in maintenance and lawn care.
He was a member of the Cattleman’s Association, the Sleepy
Eye and Fairfax Saddle Clubs, and the Charlais Association. Erwin
loved horses and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening especially
growing tomatoes, and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed playing
cards, woodworking, and traveling especially his trips out west.
Erwin loved spending time with his family and friends.
Erwin is survived by his wife Lois of 54 years; daughter Jane Anderson
of Mankato, MN, and son Jon Meierding of Pennsylvania; grandchildren:
Amanda (Terry) Bruns, Laura Anderson, Jennifer, Kristina, Jon Jr.,
Kyle, and Bo Meierding; great granddaughter Nicole Haff; brother
Wesley (Helen) Meierding of Parks, AZ and sisters: Carol Friedrich
of Redwood Falls and Dorothy Miners of San Diego, CA; uncle &
aunt Rev. Jerry and Burnette Fish of Sacremento CA; and many nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by
his parents, siblings: Ruth and Kenneth Potts, Roland and Esther
Meierding, Stanley and Frances Meierding, Chester Meierding, and
infant brother Raymond Meierding; and brothers-in-law: Lawrence
Friedrich and Bill Miners. |
