Michael W. “Mick” Prescott age 59 of the Lower Sioux Community passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Redwood Area Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church at the Lower Sioux Community. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church hall. Michael W. “Mick” Prescott was born at home February 2, 1949 to Albert & Evelyn (Goodthunder) Prescott. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church. Mick attended Bishop Whipple Mission School through the 6th grade and graduated from Morton High School in 1967. He then attended Dunwoody Institute and received a degree in printing. Mick was united in marriage to Cheryl Castle in 1968 and later was united in marriage to Susan Oliverson in 2005. Mick owned and operated Prescott Printing Business for many years. He also worked for the Redwood Gazette. Mick was instrumental in the development of Jackpot Junction Casino. He also developed “Caring and Sharing Hands” on the Lower Sioux. For many years he coordinated donations and delivery to numerous reservations in South Dakota. Mick was a Tribal Council Member from 1979 to 1985, and served as the Tribal Chair. He was the first Native American to serve on the Morton School Board, and after its consolidation the Redwood Falls – Morton School Board. He was a retired member of the Redwood Falls Fire Department, and also served as a Lay Reader at St. Cornelia’s Church for many years.

Mick is survived by his wife Susan Prescott of 3 years; children: Darin Prescott of Morton and Gabe (Kara) Prescott of Tucson, AZ; stepchildren: Cody and Lily; grandchildren: Makale & Kohen Prescott; siblings: Jerome (Carrol), Les (Brenda), Gary (Diane), Deb (John) Robertson, Greg (Jolene), Don (Ann) and Denny (Michelle) all of the Lower Sioux; sister in law Sara Prescott and ex-wife Cheryl. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Roger and nephews Todd and Tim Prescott.
