Phillip J. Schmidt

Phillip J. Schmidt age 79 of Redwood Falls died peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Interment will be held in the Redwood Falls Cemetery at a later date. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at www.redwoodvalleyfuneralhome.com.

Phillip J. Schmidt was born October 6, 1930 in Morgan, MN to Phillip and Theresa Schmidt. On October 8, 1965 he married DonaLee Neuschwander in Brookings, SD. Together the couple made their home in Redwood Falls where he was known as “Flip the Culligan Man”. He served on the fire department for 25 years also serving as the fire chief during that time. Phil was also a member of the Redwood Falls American Legion for many years. Phillip enjoyed hunting, meeting his friends at Burger King & Country Kitchen for a good game of cribbage or cards and coffee. He also enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, especially spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Phillip is survived by his wife DonaLee; children: Timothy (Judy) Hultquist, Stacy (Cliff) Schmidt-DeArmond, Darcy (Tim) Werner, Tammy (Bruce) Blaine, Tracie (Glenn) Huseby, Cathi (Dale) Lee, and Steven Schmidt; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brothers: William and Russell Schmidt; and sisters: Agnes Monahan and Eleanor Woelfel. He was preceded in death by daughter Sheila Kempfert, son Jeffrey Schmidt, grandson Chad Kempfert, and five brothers: Walter, Ralph, Leonard, Donald and Lloyd.
