Heye B. Lamfers, age 92
of Tracy, formerly of Amiret, passed away on Wednesday, February 27th,
2008 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial
will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 3rd at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Tracy. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday
at the Tracy Area Funeral Home with a 4:00 p.m. CCW Rosary service
and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service with a Knight’s of Columbus Rosary
service to follow. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services
at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Amiret Cemetery.

Heye B. Lamfers was born September 8, 1915 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota
to Benjamin and Gazena (Schmidt) Lamfers. He attended country school
District 47 and 15 near Mountain Lake. He then attended one year
of high school in Mountain Lake. After his schooling, Heye was united
in marriage to Virginia Lenertz on October 8, 1940 at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Tracy. Heye farmed all of his life. The couple
lived on his father’s farm near Mountain Lake until 1943,
when they moved to a farmplace near Amiret. They then moved north
of Tracy in 1949. Heye and Virginia moved back to the Amiret area
in 1951 where they resided until 2002. Heye retired from farming
in 1977 and later moved to Tracy on August 3, 2002 where they have
resided since. Heye was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church where he was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus
in 1953, and served on the Holy Name Society. Heye was a township
member of the ASC, and was a member of the Tracy Ambulance Board.
He loved playing horseshoes, fishing, hunting and trapping. He enjoyed
going on bus tours, camping, dancing, and playing cards –
especially pinocle. Heye also enjoyed his cats on the farm.
Heye is survived by his wife Virginia of 67 years; son Mike Lamfers
and his significant other Darles Schwartz of Amiret; grandchildren:
Stacy Lamfers-Holbrook and husband Jay of St. Bonifacius, Christopher
Heye Lamfers of Currie, and Benjamin J. Lamfers of Currie; great-grandchildren:
Hannah, Will, and Ellie Holbrook, JaRae and Skyla Heye Lamfers;
sister Martha Lindquist of St. James; sisters-in-law: Alita Lenertz
and Sally Lamfers; brother-in-law Pete Lenertz; and numerous other
relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant
son Edwin Peter in 1943, infant grandson Joseph Lamfers, grandson
Willie Lamfers, brothers: John, Daniel and Paul, and sisters: Hattie
Bettin and Minnie Elsing.
