Gerhard Edward Rudebusch, age 93 of Lake Benton, MN passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Luverne Veterans Home. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Memorial Hill Cemetery in Lake Benton. The Tyler Area Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Gerhard Edward Rudebusch was born on July 24, 1914 on the family farm in Altona Twsp near Verdi, MN to William and Mary (Hansen) Rudebusch. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in the Verdi area. Gerhard helped on the farm for several years before he was drafted into the U.S. Army in November 1941. He received his basic training in Camp Claiborne, LA. He served with the 135th Infantry in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. Gerhard received the Bronze Star
and Silver Star for his service during WWII. He received his honorable discharge in November 1945, and was sent to Percy Jones Hospital Center in Fort Custer, MI. After his recovery he returned to the Lake Benton area where he returned to farming.

Gerhard was united in marriage to Evelyn Prosch on June 3, 1948 in Lake Benton. Three sons were born to this union. Together the couple lived and farmed near Lake Benton. Gerhard retired from farming and later moved into the Luverne Veterans Home in March 1998 where he has been a resident since. Gerhard enjoyed fishing, playing cards, carpentry work, visiting his neighbors, and getting together with his family.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn; sons: Gerry and wife Anna of Lake Benton, Roger of Lake Benton, and Roy and wife Dixie of Reno, NV; four grandchildren: Rachel Rudebusch of Wood Lake, William & Gabriel Rudebusch of Reno and Jeffrey Rudebusch of Verdi; great grandson Alexander Rudebusch; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and nine brothers & sisters.
